Corran Ferry replacements cost council £1.5m

Contingency arrangements made during disruption to Lochaber's Corran Ferry services last year cost Highland Council more than £1.5m.

More than £1m was spent on providing passenger-only ferry services using small boats, with more than 32,500 people carried over Loch Linnhe's Corran Narrows.

The disruption spanned 12 months and came after delays to the overhaul of the main ferry, MV Corran, and also the breakdown of the older and smaller relief vessel, Maid of Glencoul.

Repairs to Highland Council's MV Corran were completed in October, but Maid of Glencoul remains out of action.

Councillors on Highland Council's Lochaber committee will be updated on the impact of the outage on Tuesday.

More than £200,000 was spent on passing place improvements, with shuttle bus services and traffic management also provided.
