A car that had not had an MOT for nine years has been seized by police.

Norfolk Police said it stopped a convertible Mini in Swaffham last Thursday.

The force posted on Facebook: "Even we get surprised sometimes at what we find when we stop a car."

Drivers caught without a valid MOT face being fined up to £1,000.

Police said the driver was "given a ticket".

"We'll often see comments on social media questioning why we spend time 'catching drivers' on the roads, but this is a really good example of how us doing just that will help keep you and your family safe," the post added.

"A car that's not had an MOT for that long is very likely to be unsafe, and if you get into an accident with an uninsured driver it will cause you all sorts of problems."

All vehicles beyond three years of being registered must have an annual MOT to meet road safety and environmental standards.
