Teenager jailed for firearm offences

A 17-year-old boy has been jailed after two firearms were found at his home.

The teenager pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of a firearm after the weapons were found during a raid at an address in Perry Barr, Birmingham, in May.

One of the handguns was live and fireable, West Midlands Police said. His DNA was found on both weapons.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was jailed for three years and two months at Birmingham Crown Court. Police said weapons had no place on the streets.

"Firearms play a significant role in criminality on our streets," Det Con Corey Short said.

"It persistently erodes communities, ruining lives and blighting communities."

The force was committed to tackling serious crime under Operation Target, an ongoing effort to bring those involved in guns, drugs, money laundering and exploitation to justice, he added.
