Litter pick hopes to spruce up city centre

Wolverhampton city centre is set to benefit from a two-day community litter pick.

The "Spruce Up" project is an initiative between the University of Wolverhampton, Enjoy Wolverhampton and the Business Improvement District (BID).

It will be held on 3 and 4 July, concentrating on the centre and routes connecting the university's city campus and Springfield campus.

The event will coincide with the university's summer open day on 5 July, which will attract about 2,400 visitors.

"For many young people, university is their first real experience of independence," said Cherry Shine, managing director of Enjoy Wolverhampton BID.

"Whether they're new to Wolverhampton or they've chosen to study close to home, we want to give them a warm welcome and make the best impression.

"We've previously coordinated spruce ups and they're a great way for our city's organisations to work together and feel pride in the city centre."

Sara Aslett, business development manager at the university, said: "The spruce up is an opportunity for both our staff and students to feel part of the wider community and to make a positive impact on their home or adoptive home."

The spruce up is from 08:00 to 09:00 BST and 17:00 to 18:00 BST on both 3 and 4 July.
