Murder probe launched after woman found in street

Police have launched a murder inquiry after a woman was found injured in a village street.

Officers were called to Biddle Road in Littlethorpe, near Narborough in Leicestershire, on Sunday at about 21:25 BST, where the woman was pronounced dead.

A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody, Leicestershire Police said.

Det Chf Insp Mark Sinki, who is leading the investigation, said the incident was "isolated" and added police were not looking for anyone else in connection with it.

Biddle Road between Sycamore Way and Bingley Road remains closed, the force said.

Police added detectives are in the process of carrying out house-to-house inquiries and collating CCTV footage.

Formal identification of the victim has not taken place and a post-mortem is due to be carried out.

The force said her family were being supported by specialist officers.

Mr Sinski, from East Midlands special operations unit murder investigation team, said: "Officers will remain at the scene as our investigation progresses, and we continue to investigate the full circumstances of what happened.

"I appreciate that the nature of the incident may cause some concern among residents in the area. However, I would like to reassure them that this is an isolated incident, and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

"If there is anyone who hasn't yet spoken to police and may have information connected to this incident, I would urge you to please get in contact with us, as what you saw or heard may be of significance to our investigation."
