A luxury classic car, owned until recently by Madonna, has failed to sell at auction.

The Queen of Pop purchased the rare 1967 Jaguar Mark X 4.2 three years ago for her son Rocco and sold it a year later, according to the auctioneers.

The car was up for sale at Mercedes-Benz World in Weybridge, Surrey, on Saturday, with an estimated value of £16,000-£22,000.

Matthew Priddy, from Historics Auctioneers, said Madonna "used the car for photo shoots".

"This car is interesting because of who owned it," he said.

Prior to the auction, Mr Priddy said it could sell for significantly more than the estimate.

However, despite interest, the car did not sell and remains available to purchase, the auctioneers said.

The Jaguar is a "rare" type that was only in production for two years, they added.

A 1925 Ford Model T two-seat runabout, which has featured on the big screen and on TV, was also up for sale in the auction, with an estimated selling price of £15,000-£20,000.

It has featured in films including Fantastic Beasts and Wicked Little Letters, as well as period TV dramas, such as Downton Abbey and Mr Selfridge.

It sold for £13,156.
