'Awkward' rescue for injured Peak District walker

A woman who injured her leg while walking with a neighbour in the Peak District has been brought to safety by volunteers.

Edale Mountain Rescue Team said they were called out to the an area above Winnats Pass at about 14:30 BST on Friday after the walker "slipped on unstable ground and injured her lower leg".

A vehicle was given permission to drive onto farmland to aid the rescue effort, while the woman's ankle was splinted before she was stretchered away "for the quite awkward extrication back up the top of the steep slope".

She was then lifted over a dry stone wall and taken to a waiting ambulance.
