The Great Grimsby 10K and Family Fun Run celebrates its 10th anniversary on Sunday 1 June

The Great Grimsby 10K and Family Fun Run will celebrate its 10th anniversary this summer.

Thousands of runners, spectators and volunteers are expected to attend the event in the town centre on 1 June.

The flat route goes around the town and ends with a celebration in People's Park.

Organisers have invited "runners and joggers of all abilities" who would like to take part to register for the event.

Since the first race in 2016, an estimated 27,000 people have run a total of 167,400 miles (270,000km) – more than halfway to the moon or more than six times around the world.

Neil and Nicola Pattison, the race directors, praised the many volunteers who work on the event.

"We've worked with thousands of volunteers over the years and this event simply would not happen without them," they said in a statement.

"We're grateful to everyone who has made this event so special and we can't wait to celebrate with you all on 1 June."

Offshore windfarm company Orsted has been sponsoring the event since it began and has signed up for another three years.

Councillor Steve Beasant, the mayor of North East Lincolnshire, said: "I will be running in my sixth 10K, and, knowing that it is the 10th anniversary of the race, it is bound to be something special."

He praised the amount of donations from runners "that have helped many local charities".

People who would like to take part in the event can sign up here.
