Grade II listed farmhouse badly damaged in fire
A fire at a Grade II listed former farmhouse caused substantial damage to the building and was being investigated by police.
The fire broke out at about 16:00 GMT on Monday at the empty building just off Fusiliers Way in Warwick.
The district council said it was "deeply saddened" at the news. The fire service would continue to monitor the building and 24-hour security would remain in place, it said.
Officers from the council would make the remaining structure safe and prevent any further damage, it added. Anyone with information is asked to contact Warwickshire Police.
A spokesperson for Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was alerted at 14:57 GMT on Monday to reports of a house fire and sent four appliances.
The statement read: "50% of the building was affected by fire and the whole property was smoke-logged.
"Due to smoke in the area, local residents were advised to close their windows and doors. We continued to monitor the site throughout Tuesday."
Anyone with further information has been asked to contact Warwickshire Police.
