An 81-metre (266ft) generator due to travel across the East of England on Sunday will no longer be making the journey.

Highway teams had been preparing to escort the 356-tonne abnormal load from Ipswich Docks at 06:00 BST to the Synchronous Condenser Plant at Yaxley, Suffolk - a journey of about 21 miles (34km).

The procedure would have involved a seven-hour closure of the A140, with diversions in place.

However Suffolk Highways announced on X a delay due to "unforeseen operational issues" and that further updates would be provided.

Plans had been in place for a second abnormal load - a 164-tonne electrical transformer - to be moved a week later, taking the same route.

It is not yet known whether Sunday's delay will affect the journey next weekend.
