Comet has now healed from his injuries after being nursed by staff at his shelter

A dog found tied to a lamp-post and suffering from stab wounds has recovered and staff at an animal shelter now want to find him a home.

Comet, a two-year-old brown Mastiff X, was found by a passer-by after being left overnight with the wounds to his abdomen in December.

The Cotswolds Dogs and Cats Home in Gloucestershire said Comet has healed well and is now ready for his "next chapter".

Beth Barker, animal care assistant at the home, said: "He has stolen everyone's hearts and is a wonderful example of just how resilient dogs can be."

The home said Comet would benefit from an experienced owner who can continue his training and "provide the structure he thrives on".

Ms Barker added: "After experiencing such a traumatic event we fully expected Comet to take time to build our trust but instead we had an instant connection and we were met with the most lovable, gentle giant."

"He is truly such a kind-hearted soul. He loves nothing more than being in your company, cosied up under his blankets."
