Weekend rail disruption on East Coast Main Line

East Coast Main Line passengers were being warned of disruption this weekend.

Network Rail said buses would replace some trains due to signal testing on Saturday and Sunday.

The work forms part of a £1.4bn digital upgrade with traditional, line-side signals being replaced with electronic signalling inside drivers' cabs.

A spokesperson for Thameslink and Great Northern said it work was "vital" and would "improve the reliability of services in the long run", adding: "I urge people to plan their journeys and allow plenty of extra time."

Network Rail said no trains would run between:

  • Potters Bar and St Neots
  • Potters Bar and Royston
  • Hertford North and Stevenage

A rail replacement bus service would run between:

  • Potters Bar and Hitchin
  • Hitchin and Royston
  • Hertford North and Stevenage
  • St Albans City and Stevenage, via Hatfield
  • Luton Airport Parkway and Stevenage, via Hitchin
  • St Neots and Bedford
  • St Neots and Hitchin

Trains would continue to run between:

  • St Neots and Peterborough
  • Royston and Cambridge/King's Lynn
  • London King's Cross and Potters Bar
  • Moorgate and Potters Bar/Hertford North
