Drone seized after suspected prison drugs drop-off

A drone believed to have been used for "drug drops" into the grounds of a prison has been seized by police.

The device was recovered from a car together with a pair of black tights that were "packed full" of Class A drugs, mobile phones, chargers and SIM cards, police said.

The car had reportedly potentially been involved in a suspected drugs drop inside the grounds of Category C men's prison HMP Ranby in Nottinghamshire, detectives said.

Two men - aged 26 and 29 - were arrested on suspicion of possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply and conveying a prohibited article into a prison.

Operational support officers pulled the vehicle over on the A614 Old Rufford Road in Bilsthorpe, at about 23:30 GMT on Tuesday.

It comes after police had "received intelligence" the same car had potential links to the reported incident at the prison just under a week earlier on 6 February.

The 26-year-old man detained was additionally arrested on suspicion of possessing Class B drugs, after cannabis was also found on board.

Det Con Natasha Crewe said inquiries were ongoing and urged anyone with information to get in touch.

She added: "Taking illicit substances, including drugs, inside a prison is an extremely serious offence that can cause a whole host of risks for both inmates and prison staff alike.

"This is clearly not acceptable, and anyone found to be involved in doing this should expect to find themselves in trouble.

"The same goes for anybody thinking of selling any type of illegal drugs within our communities."
