Capital's roads to shut ahead of Queen's visit

Roads in the Isle of Man's capital are to shut ahead of Queen Camilla's visit on Wednesday.

The Queen Consort will preside over a ceremony at Douglas Town Hall to declare Douglas as an official city.

Nearby streets will begin to close from 06:00 GMT and are expected reopen before 17:00, police have confirmed.

Douglas was among eight places across the British Isles to be given the status as part of Queen Elizabeth II's platinum jubilee celebrations in 2022.

The Queen will unveil a commemorative plaque at the town hall before meeting well-wishers outside.

She is also due to attend Government House to meet local charity representatives and community groups.

There will be closures on Prospect Hill, Ridgeway Street, Church Street and Barrack Street, Water Lane, Old Post Office Lane, Fancy Street, Duke Street and Heywood Place from 06:00.

A section of Lord Street will between the junctions of Market Hill and Athol Street will also close, which will be extended to the Lord Street Roundabout at 10:00.
