A man has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of an elderly man in Crossmaglen.

Michael McConville, 74, was found dead in a house in Annaghmare Road, Crossmaglen on Saturday evening.

Malachy Quinn of Annaghmare Road in Crossmaglen appeared before Banbridge Magistrates' Court, sitting in Newry, on Thursday morning charged with Mr McConville’s murder.

The 67-year-old spoke only to confirm his identity.

A detective constable confirmed she was aware of the facts and circumstances of the case.

She added that she could connect Mr Quinn to the charges.

No bail application was made and the defendant was remanded in custody.

He is due to appear in court via video link on 17 July.
