Football net warning after muntjac dies

Residents are being asked not to leave football nets out overnight after the death of a small deer.

Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue Service is raising awareness of the risks after volunteers attended a muntjac tangled in netting in Grasby.

It was dead by the time they arrived.

The service said incidents of this kind are “very common”.

On this occasion the residents had returned from holiday to find the muntjac “wrapped tightly in the net”.

They were happy to share a picture of the deer in a bid to highlight the dangers nets pose to animals.

The service added: “Many animals suffer severe injuries, especially if they've been stuck for a long time.

“If you have a similar net, please help save a wild fox, badger or deer by putting the netting up when not in use.”
