Devil painting theft from bar sparks police appeal

Police have issued a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to after an artwork worth more than £200 was stolen from a bar in York.

Drink to the Devil, by Scottish artist Alan Macdonald, was taken from the Dusk bar on 16 September, according to North Yorkshire Police.

A man was believed to have removed the oil painting from the wall of the bar, rolled it up and put it inside his jacket, officers said.

A force spokesperson said police wanted to speak to the man in the CCTV image about the theft, as well as anyone who recognised him.

The painting was thought to be worth about £200, according to police

Anyone who may have been offered the artwork for sale or who knew its current whereabouts was also asked to get in touch.

A woman was thought to have used her mobile phone to take a photo of the incident, the spokesperson said.
