The M60 has partially reopened after an eight-vehicle crash saw a section of the motorway shut for two days.

Two lanes on the ring road are now open in an anti-clockwise direction between junction 25 and junction 1 near Stockport.

The clockwise carriageway remains closed for repairs after a crash involving several heavy good vehicles carrying diesel and beer damaged the central reservation.

National Highways said there is congestion in the area but traffic should return to normal by about 16:30 BST.

The pile up involving three lorries, two cars and a van happened at about 11:30 on Monday between junction 25 for the Bredbury Interchange and junction 1 for the Pyramid Roundabout in Stockport.

One lorry had driven through the central reservation and hit several lamp posts while another had shed its load of beer barrels with a bridge parapet also damaged in the crash.

North West Ambulance Service said three people had been taken to hospital for further treatment, while six others were assessed for minor injuries.
