Town centre buildings bought to help regeneration

Cannock Chase District Council has purchased several properties in Cannock town centre as part of the area's second phase of regeneration.
The authority bought the Forum shopping centre and retail buildings along Market Hall Street, including the former Barclays Bank and Boots, following a £20m government cash injection intended for the town centre revamp plan.
Council leader Tony Johnson, Labour, said the authority was "committed" to creating a "significant development" that would attract future investment.
He added that purchasing the properties was a "key instep" to achieving its goal.
Maureen Freeman, Labour, cabinet member for regeneration and high streets, said the town had a vision that would help to boost the area's economy.
She added the upcoming demolition of a former multi-storey car park and indoor market hall highlighted that the improvements were already under way.
The authority previously said it planned to create a new northern gateway for the town.
Planning permission for the area's gateway cafe, as well as new ramps and steps, a new toucan crossing and infill of the subway was approved on 15 January, with work expected to start later in the year, the council added.
