Baby and donkey to star in seaside nativity
BBCDonkeys are a common sight at the seaside in summer, but one will have a festive role later.
Christmas Live, a retelling of the nativity story, will be held at Valley Gardens in Withernsea.
As well as a donkey, it will feature horses and a real baby - provided he is happy on the night.
The Reverend Philip West said people who attended a similar production he organised in Easington in 2021 had told him it had "brought the Christmas story to life".
The story will take place in several locations around the gardens, with the audience invited to follow the action.
Mr West, of South Holderness Deanery, said: "It’s not long. People just walk round with us, and they’re fairly close to it, and you really do feel part of it.”
Mr West said the previous event was well received, adding the audience found the live retelling "very powerful".
The part of Jesus would be played by a real baby, "as long as he's happy" on the night, he said.
Mr West added: "I'm sure he'll be perfect."
The event has been organised by Withernsea Churches Together, with volunteers making costumes and scenery.
The nativity starts at 18:30 GMT and is free to attend.
Organisers said it is free to attend, and will include traditional carol singing and refreshments.
