Coding notices issued by email for first time
Coding notices are being issued by email for the first time, the States of Guernsey says.
The document tells islanders' employers or pension providers how much of their income is tax free due to their allowances and deductions.
Emailed coding notices for 2025 will be issued immediately while those on paper will be posted out next week.
A States spokesperson said it was important that people checked their coding notice was correct as it dictated how much tax was removed by an employer or pension provider.
'Extra staff'
Nicky Forshaw, director of the Revenue Service, said: "We’re pleased to be able to send coding notices by email as this is something we know members of the public want.
"It will also reduce costs and save valuable resources.
"We know we’ll get a lot of customer inquiries after the coding notices have been received so we have temporarily drafted in extra staff on short-term contracts to deal with all the inquiries as efficiently as possible.
"Ensuring your coding notice is up to date saves time both for the public and for staff, so it’s in everyone’s interest to make sure that all the details are correct."
The States said it was the first time annual coding notices had been sent by email to those who had chosen to receive it in that format.
