Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said crews attended a large unattended bonfire on Tuesday on The Lizard

Fire crews have tackled a large unattended bonfire in a field in Cornwall.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Mullion were called to Ruan Minor on The Lizard on Tuesday at about 16:40 GMT. It said the blaze involved "commercial waste".

Once the fire was extinguished, details were passed on to the Environment Agency (EA), and Community and Environmental Protection at Cornwall Council.

The EA said green waste, white goods and plastic containers were set alight.

The EA said: "Burning this type of waste is illegal.

"It damages the environment, releases harmful gases, and leaves harmful residues.

"We will investigate this incident and take appropriate action."
