Police have appealed for information after two sheep were attacked, one of them fatally, in South Yorkshire.

Police said the animals were thought to have been attacked by a dog in a field in Wentworth, near Rotherham, in the early hours of 5 February.

Officers said one of the sheep, which was a family pet, was so severely injured it had to be put down. The other sustained "significant wounds" and is receiving care.

South Yorkshire Police have asked for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
