Trains halted due to flooding and landslips

Train services between Nottingham and Derby to London have been suspended due to flooding and landslips.

East Midlands Railway (EMR) initially said there would be delays on the line between Kettering and Leicester.

But at about 18:30 GMT all trains to London St Pancras were halted and EMR said it could not guarantee to get passengers to their destinations.

Engineers from Network Rail are due to inspect the line to decide when trains can run again.

Homes and roads have seen flooding across parts of the UK during heavy rain, particularly in Wales, with more than 100 flood warnings in place across England alone.

An EMR spokesman said: "The heavy rain has flooded the railway and also caused a bank-slip in the area.

"This means it is now unsafe for us to run our services on the Intercity route between Kettering and Leicester.

"Unfortunately the diversionary route we would usually have is not available either, also because of flooding.

"We are currently looking at alternative arrangements to keep you on the move, however we have been unable to resource these at the moment, therefore if you wish to continue your journey you may have to find your own way to complete this."
