The railway between Shrewsbury and Wrexham is set to remain closed until the end of Tuesday as workers remove 100 tonnes of debris after a landslip.

The line has been shut since Saturday after the landslip in Gobowen, Shropshire, left earth and rubble blocking the tracks.

Trains between Chester and Shrewsbury have been diverted via Crewe, Cheshire, while replacement buses were put in place for passengers travelling to Gobowen, Chirk, Ruabon or Wrexham General stations.

Transport for Wales (TfW) urged passengers to check their journeys before travelling.

"Following a landslip near Gobowen on Saturday night, the railway line between Wrexham and Shrewsbury remains closed until the end of the day," a spokesperson said on Tuesday morning.

"Transport for Wales is working closely with Network Rail to reopen the line safely as quickly as possible."

Network Rail said its teams were working hard to remove "over 100 tonnes" of debris before the track could be safely reopened.
