Another case of bird flu has been detected in Norfolk, taking the total number confirmed cases across the east in the current outbreak to 13.

The highly pathogenic virus was confirmed in commercial poultry at a premises near Wymondham, Norfolk, on Friday.

In a statement on its website, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) said: "A 3km (1.8 mile) protection zone and 10km (6.2 mile) surveillance zone has been declared around the premises."

It said the measures were applied from 20:30 GMT on 28 March and the affected birds would now be culled.

The risk to humans remained low, with chicken and eggs safe to eat if properly cooked, Defra added.
