A Somerset town has created its very own tartan.

Its colours were chosen by local people to represent the town of Wiveliscombe, near Taunton.

Blue was chosen to represent the local outdoor pool, green for the local hills, red for the local soil and yellow for the hops that are used in local breweries.

The tartan is now in the process of being officially recognised by the Tartan Authority in Scotland.

It was created by a mother and daughter on their loom called 'Alan', named after its previous owner.

It came about after locals felt "Wivey is really like a clan", said Kerry Molfesis.

She and her daughter Loula, who run a local shop, said they were overwhelmed by people's support for the idea.

"We have already made key fobs which are incredibly popular, covered diaries, notebooks, scarves and shawls with more items planned."
