Man stabbed in the eye during 'horrendous' burglary
A man was stabbed in the eye with a screwdriver during an aggravated burglary in Londonderry on Saturday.
Police received a report of the attack at a flat in Canterbury Park, in the Kilfennan area, at about 04:00 GMT.
Two men went to the property and assaulted the occupant before leaving the scene.
A 42-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm has since been released on bail pending further police enquiries.
Waterside councillor Martin Reilly, from the Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP), described it as a "horrendous and violent burglary".
"Canterbury Park is a residential area with many young families and people are shocked and concerned that this has happened on their doorsteps," he said.
"My thoughts are with the victim of this incident and I hope they go on to make a full and quick recovery."
Police have appealed for information and CCTV footage.
