A bid to turn a former police force's headquarters into 54 homes has been finally signed off.

The land on London Road in Devizes, will be turned into a new estate where Wiltshire Police's used to be based.

Reserved matters for the proposal, by Redcliffe Homes, was approved by Wiltshire Council on 12 December.

Wiltshire's Police and Crime Commissioner successfully overturned a previous decision to refuse the proposal last year.

Back in 2022 councillors initially rejected the plan over traffic safety concerns, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

According to the now approved plans the estate will be organised into two residential blocks and the homes will be mainly two-storey by Quakers Road and Parkfields.

The application said: "Redcliffe Homes is keen to progress the scheme at the earliest opportunity and to deliver high quality homes for a wide range of people as part of an attractive development which will make a positive impact on Devizes and the surrounding area."

The plans show red-bricked facades and brown-tiled roofs will be predominantly used, in a "meticulously crafted" architectural style based on the local character.
