A man has been arrested after police responding to a disturbance in a street in Nottingham uncovered a cannabis-growing site.

Nottinghamshire Police said they were called to Sneinton Dale at about 02:00 BST on Tuesday after a reported car theft.

A suspect drove off but was spotted on Loughborough Avenue and arrested, a force statement said, and a search found "a large cannabis grow spread over multiple floors of a house".

The drugs were removed from the property, while growing equipment has been "put beyond use".

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to get in touch.

Det Sgt Al Prentice said: "Industrial cannabis grows of this nature are often linked to organised criminal gangs from home and abroad and can also pose a significant fire danger to neighbouring properties.

“That’s why it’s so important for us to identify and close them down."
