The school said serious incidents like this were "incredibly rare"

A school has launched an investigation into allegations that a primary school pupil threatened other children with a knife.

It is claimed that the Year Six pupil at Bridge Learning Campus in Hartcliffe, Bristol, confronted other children after lessons on Friday.

No one was injured in the incident, with a spokesperson for the school telling the BBC "immediate action" was taken "in line with our established safeguarding procedures".

They added that cases like this were "incredibly rare" and would be treated with the "utmost seriousness", with parents encouraged to contact the school directly with any concerns.

In a letter to parents, headteacher Rupert Maule said pupils had told members of the school's leadership team that a Year Six pupil had brought a knife into school.

"This was reported to police, and a school investigation into the allegation started immediately," he added.

The letter also explained that statements had been taken from "a number of Year Six and Year Eight" children, and that the child concerned "is not in school and will not be for the foreseeable future while the investigation continues".
