Ambulance trust jobs at risk in bid to save £5m

The ambulance service in the South West has announced up to 40 jobs could be at risk in a bid to save millions of pounds.

The South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWAST) said its Corporate Support Services had to save £5m in 2025.

Therefore, the service had entered into a period of consultation, which the trust confirmed could result in up to 40 redundancies.

The trust said: "We're hoping this number may be reduced by supporting employees into redeployed roles where possible."

A spokesperson for trust said: "As part of our responsibility to provide the best possible care to patients, while meeting national expectations for efficiency and value for money, the trust has begun a consultation process within our Corporate Support Services.

"For some time now, we have been taking steps to reduce costs through careful workforce and vacancy management, enabling us to make some of the necessary savings.

"However, despite these proactive measures, we now face the difficult reality that further action is required.

"We are therefore entering a period of consultation, which may result in up to 40 redundancies."

The trust confirmed that the redundancies would not impact front-line clinical roles.
