Man in court accused of trying to murder nurse
A man has appeared in court charged with attempting to murder a nurse who was stabbed in a hospital's acute medical unit.
Roman Haque is accused of stabbing Achamma Cherian at the Royal Oldham hospital at about 23:30 on Saturday.
Haque, 37, of Yasmin Gardens, Royton, Oldham, stood in the dock at Manchester Magistrates' Court for a brief five-minute hearing, during which he was also charged with possession of a bladed article - a pair of scissors - in a public place.
No pleas were given and there was no application for bail ahead of the next hearing, at Manchester Crown Court Minshull Street, on 18 February.
Earlier, Det Supt Matt Walker said: "Our thoughts are with the nurse as she continues to receive treatment in hospital for her injuries, and our priority remains supporting her, her family, and her colleagues at this difficult time.
"We continue to work closely with our NHS colleagues to support anyone who has been affected by this incident."
