Red Hot Chilli Piper Stuart Cassells tells of life after stroke

Stuart Cassells is best known for founding the dynamic Red Hot Chilli Pipers, recognised all over the world for their energetic performances, bringing a modern twist to traditional bagpipe music.

But Stuart's world flipped upside down last year when he suffered a stroke at his son's second birthday party.

Since then, the 44-year-old’s recovery has entailed learning to speak again, as well as exercising regularly to drop more than 30kgs (4.7 stone) in weight.

Stuart says he has had to reinvent himself as he struggles to remember who he was before his stroke.
