UKIP's Gareth Bennett told to apologise for transgender comments

Presiding Officer Elin Jones has banned UKIP's Gareth Bennett from speaking in the Welsh Assembly unless he withdraws controversial comments about transgender people.

The South Wales Central AM said in a debate on Tuesday: "There is only so much deviation from the norm that any society can take before that society completely implodes."

On Wednesday, Ms Jones said she found some of Mr Bennett's remarks "particularly hateful", and asked him to withdraw them.

He refused and walked out of the chamber.
