A knitting group has created an 8 foot (2.4m) high replica of the London Cenotaph for Remembrance Sunday.

The structure is made of woollen "bricks", which were sewn together and covered over.

It was made by around 20 residents of ExtraCare's Stoke Gifford Retirement Village, who started work on it in July this year.

"When I saw it come together, I thought it was really good," said one of the knitters, Jenny Rogers.

The flags and decorations are also knitted, while the words "The Glorious Dead" have been embroidered on.

Last year, the group made a 6ft (1.8m) soldier for Remembrance Sunday and it now stands next to the knitted cenotaph.

They also made a knitted Queen to mark Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee, which earned a written response from the late monarch.

Ms Rogers said the knitted cenotaph and soldier are open to anyone to view at the reception building of the retirement village.
