U-turn on airport terminal passenger drop-offs

Airport authorities on the Isle of Man have reversed a decision to ban passengers being dropped off in front of the airport terminal.

It had been announced that only buses, taxis and blue badge holders would be able to use the middle lane outside the building after a rise in vehicles being left unattended.

But in a statement airport authorities announced the ban would not now be brought in "due to feedback".

There were still "some major security and safety concerns" and drivers were therefore urged "not to abuse the rules" and leave cars unattended, the statement said.

"Parking wardens will be present and may issue fixed penalty notices to those who do not comply," it added.

Changes announced on Thursday evening had been due to see barriers put in place and security staff manning the inner lane from 06:00 BST.

However the airport confirmed those plans had been abandoned at about 13:30.

People have been urged to use the car parks, which offer between 15 and 30 minutes free parking, to drop off passengers.
