A man has been taken to hospital after he was shot in the legs in Dundonald on Monday evening.

Police said the attack happened at about 21:10 GMT in Enler Park Central in the Ballybeen estate.

Officers said the 37-year-old had been shot once in each leg.

Det Sgt Cargin said the Police Service of Northern Ireland's enquiries into the incident were ongoing and appealed for anyone who witnessed it to contact detectives.

East Belfast MP Gavin Robinson said "such attacks need to stop".

"This is a sorry way to start 2022," he added.

"This barbarism is not justice".
