Chief scout Bear Grylls has praised a "remarkable" 10-year-old girl who is aiming to swim outdoors every day for a year

Eva Batho, from Buckfastleigh, Devon, is 10 months in to her challenge of swimming in open water every day for 366 years to raise money for her local scout group.

In a personal message, Grylls said: "You've had to dig deep and really epitomise the scouting motto of 'Do your best' - you have truly done your best.

"We admire you so much, keep up that spirit, your courage and also your many kindnesses and that never give up attitude that will take you so far in life."

Eva was inspired by Devon teenager Max Woosey who slept under canvas for three years.

She said she had raised more than £1,100 so far for the 1st Buckfastleigh Scout group.

"I don't think I could have done the challenge without all my friends, they helped me and supported me along the way," she said.

Swimming in all weathers had been quite a challenge, she added.

"There have been times when I just don't want to get in and it's raining but I kind of just dip and dash," she said.
