Deep clean to remove town centre's chewing gum
Jet washers will be used to deep clean a town centre and rid it of chewing gum.
Work will begin on Main Street, Cockermouth, Cumbria, on Monday and is expected to take about a week.
Cumberland Council said it would "enhance the cleanliness and appearance of key streets" and create "a more welcoming environment for both locals and visitors".
"Ingrained dirt and other debris from pavements and pedestrian areas" will also be removed.
To minimise disruption during the "comprehensive deep cleaning programme", the authority said work would be carried out in stages with traffic measures in place.
With jet washing creating spray, it added "extra precautions" will be taken to maintain the cleanliness of shop fronts.
The work will also focus on Station Street and Marketplace.
A similar scheme is set to be carried out in Brampton from the following Monday.
