An ambulance has been sent to help Ukrainian soldiers injured in the war with Russia.

The vehicle has been bought by charity Hull 4 Ukraine, which was set up in 2022 by Ana McBride, who is originally from Crimea.

The ambulance has been filled with surplus supplies and donated to the medical brigade of Azoz Battalion.

Ms McBride, 44, who now lives in Hull, said the charity is still receiving many requests for help from the east and south of Ukraine, where she said there is a "population of people relying on aid".

She added: "The war has caused such a gap in Ukraine's economy. People have lost their jobs and their houses."

She said while military support has been provided, many people were living in refugee camps and they were still in desperate need of food, hygiene products, clothing and general medical supplies.

Christmas box appeal

Hull 4 Ukraine, which has a charity shop in Whitefriargate, is also fundraising for two winter appeals.

Mrs McBride has asked members of the public to donate any warm clothing they have spare.

The charity will also be making Christmas boxes for orphans of the war, and are appealing for small stocking fillers that will "make life a little easier" for children living in orphanages.
