Police officer charged over death of moped rider
A Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving over a crash in which a moped rider was killed.
PC Ian Brotherton, 32, is also accused of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving.
Cristopher De Carvalho Guedes died following the collision with a marked police van in Enfield, north London, on 12 October 2023.
The 26-year-old Brazilian national died in hospital the next day.
The charges were brought after an investigation by watchdog the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
The police van, which had its lights and sirens on, drove through a red light in Southbury Road before colliding with Mr Guedes, who was turning right into Baird Road.
PC Ian Brotherton will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
