Thousands spent replacing car park machines
Cornwall Council spent thousands of pounds replacing payment machines in three of its car parks after five years of use, a Freedom of Information (FOI) request has revealed.
The council replaced pay on foot systems with pay and display machines in three Truro city centre car parks in 2024.
The FOI request revealed £18,000 was spent to install the new machines, although the council did not say how much the original charging systems cost or how much it cost to remove them, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
According to the figures, the installation at Garras Wharf cost £5,966.51, Moorfield was £6,732.85 and Old Bridge Street £5,610.90 - a total of £18,309.96.
A council employee said in the FOI response: "The removal of the pay on foot (POF) machines hasn't yet been costed and will be confirmed by April 2025.
"In terms of the remaining six POF car parks, there are currently no firm dates for removal of equipment or estimated costs for any future removal and installation."
