Drivers in Jersey have been urged to be more careful of the condition of their vehicles' tyres after a car safety event.

The two-day event in October, as part of Jersey's TyreSafe Month, saw 246 vehicles inspected, resulting in 984 tyres being analysed.

Of those, 76 tyres needed replacing, 83 were close to needing replacing and 808 tyres were fine, according to the Infrastructure and Environment Department.

In a new report about the event, road-users have been recommended to regularly check the air pressure, condition and tread of tyres.

The event was aimed at helping the Government of Jersey better understand the condition of vehicle tyres on the island while promoting safe driving habits among motorists.

'A small effort'

In its analysis of the event, a government report told drivers: "Your tyres are the only point of contact between your vehicle and the road, making their condition crucial for your safety and the safety of others.

"Regularly checking and maintaining your tyre pressure, condition and tread depth helps ensure optimal grip, stability, and handling on every journey.

"A small effort in tyre maintenance goes a long way toward safer driving for all islanders."
