New £25m police base will be 'fantastic facility'
Pendle's new £25m police station will be "a fantastic facility", Lancashire's Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) has said.
The new police station in Carr Road, Nelson, will replace the force's buildings in Colne and Nelson which were constructed in the 1970s.
It will include a response unit and neighbourhood policing officers as well as a public counter and chargers for electric vehicles.
PCC Clive Grunshaw said he was "absolutely delighted" to see the building being erected as its steel framework neared completion.
He added: "The problem we had with Nelson and Colne police stations was the cost of refurbishment was throwing good money after bad.
"The cost of heating, the cost of everything needed to keep those buildings going was actually more than the cost of investing in what is going to be a fantastic facility."
Supt Derry Crorken, Lancashire Police's operations manager for Burnley, Rossendale, Pendle and the Ribble Valley, said the new site was in "a perfect location for us to respond to the people of Pendle and beyond".
It will cover Nelson, Brierfield, Colne and Barnoldswick.
The new police station is expected to open next year.
