Council faces festive recycling backlog
A council has not been able to complete all of its recycling collections over the festive period.
Westmorland and Furness Council apologised for the collection delays in the Barrow Island and Walney area in recent weeks.
It said this was due to a "knock-on effect" of some staff sickness and a recycling vehicle being unavailable.
"Our crews have been working extra shifts to try to clear the backlog," a spokesperson added.
The local authority acknowledged it has been "frustrating" for residents, "especially as many will have extra recycling following the Christmas holiday".
The council did not say when the backlog would be cleared.
