Staff at a charity in Hull have said an act of vandalism on its headquarters have left them facing thousands of pounds of repairs.

Pink paint was thrown over the front of the Hull and East Yorkshire Mind building, in Beverley Road, at around 19:30 GMT on Friday.

Emma Dallimore, chief executive of the charity, said this sort of incident has not happened before and had left them "completed devastated as it will cost a lot to fix".

The BBC has contacted Humberside Police for more information.

Ms Dallimore said: "We are heartbroken that someone would target a charity that supports well over 25,000 people in need every year.

"Every penny spent repairing this damage is money that could have gone towards supporting vital mental health services for our community.

"However, we are resilient and committed to continuing our work."

Ms Dallimore added the charity is now reaching out to the local community for help with covering the cost of repairs which she predicted could run up to thousands of pounds.

Pictures of the incident showed red paint splattered over the front of the white building, as well as over the dark blue signage.

The building is used by adults and young people to access mental health counselling and also get overnight crisis support.
