A redundant grain store built during World War Two is set to be demolished to make way for a farm shop.

Planners at Peterborough City Council approved proposals for a Teals farm shop at George Farm in Wothorpe.

Planners also approved the demolition of other farm structures on the site.

Forge Design Studio, which acted on behalf of Teals, said the shop would meet the needs of the local community and day-trippers.

Teals also has a farm shop near Wincanton, Somerset.

Planners were told that the development would include more than 100 car parking spaces, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

Forge Design Studio also said the shop would bring "local produce and businesses together".

A spokesperson for the architectural firm added: "The design process has been thorough and quite challenging at times however we believe that it has been worth the time and effort."

The plans were approved by the council on Christmas Eve.
